Principle structures

General Civil Contract (GCC)

Work covered by the Keeyask GCC includes: rock excavation, concrete for the powerhouse and spillway, earth structures, electrical and mechanical work, and the construction and removal of temporary cofferdams needed to manage the river flow during construction. The GCC is the largest of the contracts awarded as part of the project.

Turbine and generators

Voith Hydro was selected as the successful proponent for the design, supply and installation of seven turbines and generators. Model tests to validate turbine performance are complete. Early design work began in July 2014.

Test ice boom

Design modifications to the ice boom were completed and installation of the ice boom is ongoing. The ice boom helps minimize the effects of frazil ice which contributes to ice damming on the river.
