Caribou Island
The site is located along the northern bank of the Nelson River on a small spit
of relatively flat land. There is a small marshy area located on the north side
A
of the spit. The shoreline consists of cobbles and much of the soil has been
washed away. Various artifacts have been recovered from the site including
fabric-impressed Late Woodland pottery, a Late Taltheilei projectile point
(ca. 350-1,800 years ago), and various other Pre-European Contact artifacts. C M
The Late Taltheilei point is made of gronlid siltstone, a source of which is
Gull Lake Gull Lake found in central Saskatchewan. Site visits occurred in 2001, 2003, 2010, 2011,
Nelson River 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018. B
