                                    Caribou Island

The site is located on the southwest corner of a small island near the north

bank of the Nelson River. Due to the presence of Labrador Tea, which local
community members harvest, the site was recorded as Tea Island. The site
consisted of a cabin constructed from logs and plywood used during the
 Gull Lake Gull Lake
1960-70s. The cabin was abandoned after the tragic drowning of a child in
Nelson River 1980. The site name was later updated to Leon’s Island, to honour this child.
The island was unfortunately burned during the 2013 fire. Site visits occurred
        in 2001, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
