Nelson River
Nelson River
The site is located on the north shore of the Nelson River across the mouth A
of a large peninsula. It is 7.5 km downriver from Birthday Rapids and 2.4 km
east of Two Goose Creek. Medium rocks and earthen till characterized the
site that quickly rises steeply to a high terrace containing spruce and birch
trees. The site was named for the culturally modified trees in the area during
the initial recording visit in 2004. The strips of birch bark were likely removed
for the construction of moose calls. Site visits occurred in 2004, 2012, 2013,
2015 and 2018.
