Keeyask’s seventh, and final, unit brought online

Jun 09, 2022

Keeyask’s seventh generating unit was released for service as of 10:46 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022, this is the final unit — of Keeyask’s total of seven units — to be brought online.

“I would like to acknowledge all the hard work and sacrifice by the entire Keeyask workforce in realizing this truly amazing accomplishment,” said Dave Bowen, Manitoba Hydro’s Director of Project Management. “As the fourth largest generation station in Manitoba, it will supply dependable and renewable energy to our customers’ homes and businesses for decades to come.”

“The Keeyask Project has created jobs and opportunities for thousands of people since construction began in 2012 and it is something that every one of them can be proud of.”

Work on the project continues with construction activities inside the powerhouse planned through late summer 2022. Over the next 2–3 years there will be a focus on site decommissioning, environmental mitigation, and rehabilitation — now that the last unit is on-line.
