Environmental Impact Assessment

Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge and Technical Science

Traditional Knowledge was a key component in the environmental assessment studies and the Keeyask environmental impact statement. Manitoba Hydro and the Keeyask Cree Nation (KCN) partners committed to using both western science-based knowledge and Traditional Knowledge for assessment of the Project.

Traditional Knowledge provides important perspectives on the environmental and socio-economic implications of Project development. Integrating Traditional and Local Knowledge along with knowledge from scientific and other studies helped to enhance the environmental assessment of the Project.

Each of the KCN, with Manitoba Hydro’s support, engaged their own independent professional and technical support and used Traditional Knowledge in their evaluation of the Project impacts. The Keeyask Environmental Evaluation Reports contains their findings.
